Legislative Updates
The legislature adjourned after passing a budget last week. It includes approximately $233 Million in new tax revenue, but also cuts to public education. The cuts are just under 2%. Now it's up to the governor to sign or veto the budget and tax bills. If signed into law, the cuts will affect all districts, including APS. Meanwhile, the governor still needs to sign or veto legislation passed in the regular session. -

One bill we want the governor to VETO is SB 78a ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL CURRICULAR PLANS (Sen. Nava), which amends the Public School Code to allow the Secretary of Public Education to waive class-size requirements for a class to which a student teacher who meets certain criteria has been assigned, effective for school years 2010-2011 through 2012-2013.
Call Governor Richardson today at( 505) 476-2200 and ask him to VETO Senate Bill 78a.
