Contract negotiations started last spring and concluded at the end of July. Although the work took a long time, it was the detail work that delayed results. The APS and ATF teams worked well together in spite of the harsh economic climate.

As you all know, because of the recession and New Mexico's budget deficit there was no money allocated to districts for raises this year. Even step increases, which many believe are automatic, depend on an increase in state funding. With money issues largely out of our control, your bargaining team focused mainly on improving contract language for our members. We are pleased with the outcome of our agreements on contractual issues and the small measure of financial relief we were able to negotiate for those we represent.
